The one thing I regret the most in the course of the year is my attendance. Although I completed the work and made sure to catch up with the work my attendance was poor. Partly because of the fact that I struggled to make friends on my course which made me not want to go in because i found it boring and lonely. However at the same time, If my attendance was better and I went in and tried to be more friendly with the girls in my class I probably could have made better friends which is the one thing i am so excited for this year as we have a new group and I am going to try much harder to be friendly and make better friends which I am sure will make the course more enjoyable for me. I also realised that at the end of the day the reason why I am in uni is to get a degree in Make up and my goal is to actually develop my skills and become a better make up artist, therefore this year my goal is to try harder to practise more and to learn from my mistakes from last year which i see clearly.

Overall completing a year at university I have learnt that working independently is a massive part of the process. In the beginning I always wondered why we weren't spending more time learning the basics but as it is the second year now i have realised that the basics was something which i had to learn myself by practise and i am extremely happy in which the way my make up skills have improved.

Fashion/Collabs

After a year of studying different aspects of hair and make up I realised that the path in which I would like to be in after uni is definitely to do with high fashion and photo shoots. Also i started to look into more of creative directing aspects of a career as a make up artists. As a hobby I started to scout for models and design looks on face charts and create my own fashion shoots to develop my portfolio which made me realise that I very much enjoy putting a team together and taking charge and responsibility. However this made me realise that I have to work more in groups, that's when I started to message second and third years to collaborate and develop my skills in team work and I loved it. The highlight of my year was to be able to meet with different students and collaborate our skills and create beautiful shoots, developing our portfolio.

After completing the Estelle shoot for our assessment I decided to collaborate and re create my own contemporary version of Estelle. 

Basics

Basics

The basics in which we learnt at the beginning of the year in September, exactly a year later has made the biggest changes and improvements in my make up skills. Although i knew the basics of how to prep the skin and carry out consultation notes, i now take it very seriously and make sure to put time and effort to achieve the best application of make up as possible. This i started of with investing in good skincare such as Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream which we were advised to buy in class. When applying make up I make sure to use a good translucent powder always before applying powder to liquid which is something that i didn't think was important. I always struggled working with different eye shapes, however with practise on different models I have improved a lot. 

Throughout the year I learnt that practise is key so after our practise shoot, I pointed at things that could be improved such as the application of the foundation, eyeshadow and blending the make up well I improved my skills. 

Reflection ( face charts)

Reflection

After completing my first year, studying make up and hair design at Southampton Solent University I am going to be going through the skills which I have learnt which include professional make up and hair skills from the basics to prosthetics and ageing. Communication skills, team work and my experience in collaborating with other students.
Also, I will exploring my lows and how i overcame them, such as my struggles in in creating face charts, time management, attendance and professionalism.


In the beginning of the year, Kat told us to keep our first ever face chart and then compare it by the end of the year.
